Production method of artists
Ricky Swallow’s “Killing Time” sculpture of a life-size wooden dining table, carved from laminated jelutong (a light-coloured wood). Scattered on the top of it is an array of marine life that represents his youth as the son of a fisherman, including fish, a lobster, oysters, clams, a bucket, a chopping board, some peels lemons and a tablecloth.
Swallow has carefully crafted every part of the work with fine, immaculate detail, from the elaborate carving of each individual scale of the fish, the intricate shells of the oysters and claws of the lobster, the skin of the lemon and each fine crease of the cloth draping off the edge, to the cracked surface of the wooden table.
Furthermore, he focuses on the amount of light and shadow in this work. The lighting is so impressive that his work actually looks like a real table with the creatures coming to life.
Sidney Nolan’s “The Trial” (1947) is an oil painting- enamel on composition board- that is part of his famous Ned Kelly series which depicts the bushranger’s trial which led to his hanging.
Nolan doesn’t seem to pay too much attention to details, as the style of the painting is very rough, with uneven lines and a jagged, messy painting style. All the shapes in the painting are very simplified, with plain shapes such as squares and ovals- it almost looks like a child’s artwork. Nolan’s use of colour is also very uncomplicated, using red and white for the tile pattern, and blunt, unmixed colours for each feature of the painting instead of colouring in the details.
2 section texture sketches used
Texture 1
left: Sharp - This texture was used on the stairs leading down towards Nolan's gallery. Used to aid the feeling of being edgy and in a sense uncomfortable.
Above: Sketchy - this texture was used on the stairs going up to Swallow's gallery, i chose this texture because it gave a feeling of something old - in relation to time.

Second Building(model 2)
I decided to fix upon my previous gallery to aid the individual experiencing the gallery to create n atmosphere of there the picture will go. For Swallow's work of"Killing Time", the feeling of being in a gallery on the upper level of somewhat in a cave where it has aged with time like his work. Which is of dead fish being carved of wood. His studio is the centre of the building with big glass panels, i thought this was appropriate in that he could see his surroundings as a means of generating ideas for future work. With the concept of experiencing the use of space and structure of the stairs. The Stairs being spiral and being unique as it hits the top as everything is not symetrical and rocky would give the individual a feel of nature and as it has to be time, how nature has aged with time.
Nolans' painting of Ned Kelly is at the bottom of the gallery. With the walls of the outside of the room of the gallery made to look like bars was designed in that people inside the gallery looked like they were in a room behind bars yet it may seem trivial from the inside as it cannot be seen - just as Ned Kelly did not know he was doomed as soon as he turned into a rebel.
The Stairs have been created with different heights and widths for the individual to get a sense of being uneasy and feeling a little edgy. As all stairs in this building have been textured with my own sketches. The colours chosen for the bottom level have also been taken into consideration, as Kelly spent most of his days in hiding in the bush - the colours chosen are that taken from the Ausralian Bush (Outback of NSW and VIC).

STAIRS
Sketches and Ideas for stair designs:
With some designs of stairs the feeling and experience of moving up and down the stairs is taken into consideration, such as the choice of where to move and the tempo(pace) of how the individual is experiencing each step. An example would be the height of each step with the involvement with platforms and the length of each step.
With Sketches 1 and 2 and the individual chooses his/her path in experiencing the stairs, the feeling of being able to freely move. With this concept i decided to use these steps juxtaposed with changing the width and height of each stair to make the experience rememberable for the individual. Also with the use of space, as some designs have been covered with shelter all around, a sense of freedom by choosing steps but also feeling a little costraphobic.
However with the other sketches there is only one step for the individual to walk on and the path is chosen with a sense of being restrained.
In relations to which design to put into my gallery is that i have decided to choose a stairs that would help the individual to experience the feeling of Ned Kelly as he was a rebel as well as a heroic icon to many Australians. Ideas could be a sense of edgyness, being a bit sheltered off from everything else yet being freely to move and have a choice in the way the individual experiences the atmosphere around him or her.
